Some Tips for Applying Funding

During past few years, I have attended the application of several research funds, and trying to record some principle tips here. This post could get updated during my academic career continues (if so).

1. More attenders, more discussion time. N institutions, Math.pow(2,n) meeting time.
2. Begin preparation at the announcement of fund is always the best choice. And your competitors know the same rule.
3. A suitable and familiar cooperator » nobody >= someone unknown » someone unsuitable
4. Decide workload & benefit at the beginning, otherwise everyone could be unhappy.
5. Try to thinking as reviewer, not only researcher.
6. Learn how to do promotion & PR of your team. That could be always followed during whole academic career.
7. Divide each part of application paperwork and give clear deadline. Leave 50% time for revising and further discussion. Everyone could have own ideas, but PI should make everything in one story.

近年我参加了几个研究基金的申请，在此记录一些原理心得。 这篇文章可能会在我的学术生涯继续期间更新（如果能继续的话）。

1. 参加者多，讨论时间多。 N 个机构，Math.pow(2,n) 会议时间。
2. 在基金公告时开始准备永远是最好的选择。 你的竞争对手也知道同样的规则。
3. 合适又熟悉的合作者 » 没人 >= 不认识的人 » 不适合的人
4. 一开始就确定工作量和收益，否则每个人都会不高兴。
5. 尽量以审稿人的身份思考，而不仅仅是研究者。
6. 学习如何提升&公关你的团队。 在整个学术生涯中始终可以遵循这一点。
7. 划分申请文书的各个部分，并给出明确的截止日期。 留出 50% 的时间进行修改和进一步讨论。 每个人都可以有自己的想法，但 PI 应该把所有东西都写成一个故事。
